3.125. Save icon changes to a delete icon?

I was adding a work order that when I pressed the save portion of the screen (the file cabinets in the lower left-hand corner) that instead of saving it showed delete job - when I pressed the shredder it asked if I wanted to delete the job, but when I pushed no it just went back to shredder again. I wondered if other work orders had been saved the same way and what I found was that all the work orders, even ones completed show the same "delete job" status. Apparently the program has taken it upon its self to do this with every file. So far nothing appears to have been lost, but I am nervous that at some point it will delete everything.

The operation you have noted is by design. Pressing the save button DOES save the job, and then the icon changes because it is already saved.

Explanation: EstiMate works over a database construct. When you create an estimate and press the save button, not only is the estimate saved but all its components as well (such as the individual line items and descriptions). If you make a change it is automatically saved for you, no need to save multiple times.

When you see the delete icon, this is an indicator that the estimate has already been saved.

Do not click the delete icon unless you are ** sure ** you want to delete the estimate.

That said, there are some safeguards you can put in place.

1. Enable a password. This can be done by clicking Management > Configure EstiMate > Security.
After you are done enabling the password, click management > advanced management > logoff administrator. This will prevent anyone from accidentally deleting an estimate because the software will ask for a password.

NOTE: You must have the advanced management suite to enable a password.

2. Do regular backups! Backup as often as possible, every day if you can.
