4.201. How do I completely remove EstiMate 1 from my computer?

Q:  How do I completely remove EstiMate 1 and all of its components from my computer?

A:  Before you remove or uninstall any part of EstiMate you should make sure you have a current backup of your data.  More information on how to backup your data can be found here:

Making a backup in EstiMate:

Manual backup (if you are unable to open EstiMate):

http://estimatesoftware.net/support/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=323

Once you have a backup of your data you can uninstall EstiMate.  NOTE:  These instruction are intended for the removal of EstiMate version 1 only.  If you have EstiMate 2 installed on this same machine you should not use these directions, and you should call EstiMate Software for further assistance.

To uninstall EstiMate:

1. Close EstiMate and any other programs that are open.

2. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

3. Double Click on the add/remove programs icon.

4. Highlight 'EstiMate Sign Estimating Software' and click the "Remove" button.  (If more then one version shows up in the list (e.g. the original and an update version) be sure to remove them all).

5. Choose 'Automatic' as the uninstall method if prompted.

6. Go through the uninstall wizard until you get to finish.

7. Close the add/remove programs icon and close control panel.

After EstiMate has been removed using Add/Remove Programs you will need to manually remove the left over components / folders.

  • First you'll need to navigate to "C:\Program Files" and delete the "EstiMate" folder.
  • Next you'll need to navigate to "C:\Program Files\Common Files", and delete the folder called "Borland Shared".
  • Last you'll need to navigate to "C:\Windows\System32" and delete the file called "BDEADMIN".

Once you have those 2 folders and 1 file deleted you'll need to delete the registry entries.  NOTE:  If you also have EstiMate 2 installed on your computer DO NOT use the following instructions to delete registry entries as the EstiMate 1 and 2 entries are "tied" together, and deleting these entries will render your EstiMate 2 unusable.  Please contact EstiMate Software further assistance.

Also be aware that modifying you Windows registry in any way other than what is outlined in these instructions can cause Windows to become unstable and/or unusable.  If you have never made changes to the Windows registry before you should make a backup of the registry as a precaution before you continue.  More information on how to backup the Windows Registry, and how to modify it can be found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/136393

You the user assume all risk associated with modifying the Windows Registry.

  • To begin click on your Windows "Start" button, and select "Run".
  • When the "Run" window comes up type "regedit" (w/o the quotes) into the "Open" field, and press "Enter".
  • When the Registry Editor comes up click on the "+" next to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" > "Software", and then right click on the folder called "Borland", and select DELETE, and then right click on the folder called "EstiMate" and select DELETE.  Once you've deleted those two folder click the "-" next to "Software", and then "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" to close up those folders.
  • Next click the "+" next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" > "Software", and again delete the folders called "Borland", and "EstiMate".

That's it, EstiMate and it's components are now completely removed from you system.  If you were having issue with EstiMate 1, and that's why you needed to completely remove it you should reboot you computer now, and then you can reinstall EstiMate from this link once the computer is restarted.

Once you have EstiMate reinstalled you will need to call or email us with the "ISN" (Install Serial Number) that EstiMate generates, so that we can get you a new unlock key.  The Internet registration option in EstiMate 1 is no longer operational.  When the registration screen comes up you will need to click on the words "Register By Phone" to move to the next step.
