3.173. You can't change the type of a name or add a duplicate name error?

When trying to import my invoices I exported from EstiMate into QuickBooks I get an error that says "You can't change the type of a name or add a duplicate name." What is the meaning of this and how can I get my invoices imported?

There are essentially two possibilities:

1. There is a company or contact name in your quickbooks customer list that is exactly the same as the one you are importing.

In many cases you can find the entry by opening QuickBooks and clicking on Lists > other names list to see if a duplicate name or record is listed there.

Solution: Rename the name in the list to a different spelling or delete the duplicate.
For reference see quickbooks article http://search.intuit.com/KCS/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=http--wwwquickbookscom-support-faqs-qb2005-118469html&sliceId=&dialogID=12458778

2. There are spaces or tabs in front of multiple customer or company names in EstiMate.

Solution: Comb carefully through your customer list in EstiMate and be sure to remove any spaces or tabs that may exist before a company name or contact name.
