4.137. How do I price graphics and mounting in EstiMate?

We outsource our large format digital graphics and sometimes our customer wants the graphics mounted on foam core, but our service provider cannot do the mounting because they are so far away and the images might get damaged. So we have to mount them ourselves. How do I setup Estimate to markup the graphics and then the mounting on foam core?

Thanks for posting. If you are pricing the graphics in the linear/square items portion of the software then you have two options: one line item method and multiple line item method.

One line item method.

1. Open the linear/square items database and create a new line item with a description that includes all processes that will result in the finished product, for example: ?Full-Color Graphics Mounted on Foamcore?.
2. Select Square and Feet respectively from the ?This item is sold in? dropdowns.
3. Enter a unit cost that includes materials and labor for the graphics, mounting and foamcore. Enter the desired markup and save the entry.
4. Create a new quote and choose the linear/square items plugin. Select the entry you created in step 1 from the ?select an item? dropdown box and input the appropriate height and width. Update the quantity field (if applicable) and calculate the total. Click the green checkmark to save.

Multiple line item method.

This method involves creating three line items, a linear/square item for the graphics, a retail item for the foamcore and a free-form line item for the mounting.

1. Click New Estimate > Add item > Linear/square items. Select the graphic you want to price from the ?select an item? dropdown box and input the appropriate height and width. (If the graphics are not listed in the ?select an item? dropdown box then click the book icon to create a new entry.
2. Input the height and width of the graphic calculate the total and save the item. You have successfully priced the graphics portion of the quote.
3. Click add item > retail items. Click the book icon to access the retail items database click the new button and add in your foamcore parameters. Click the green OK checkmark twice to return to the retail items screen. Select the foamcore from the ?select an item? dropdown, calculate the total and save the entry. You have now successfully priced the foamcore and added it to the quote.
4. Click Add item > Free-Form. Enter a description like ?mounting on foamcore? and select either flat rate item if you want to charge a flat mounting charge. Or choose hourly-rate item and charge by the hour for the mounting labor. Calculate the total and save the entry.

Other Variations.

It is also possible to price these by using two retail items, one for the graphics, one for the foamcore and free-form for the labor.
